Wer nicht genießt wird ungenießbar. Franz Ehmann kocht zum Genießen und kocht als Performance. Zu seinen Installationen im Casula Powerhouse in Liverpool servierte er Rösti, Polenta mit Pilzen und Balsamic Essig im Artspace Sydney, 2007. Früchte und Gemüse wurden von ihm in schwarz pigmentiertes Bienenwachs getaucht für ein Buffet der rohen Ernährung und für die Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane waren es die Totenmahlzeiten Amerikanischer Häftlinge. Zukunfts Nahrung wird Franz Ehmann in der Galerie Lisi Hämmerle servieren, mit neuen, in Brisbane entstandenen Fotografien und Text-Montagen.

Franz Ehmann, geboren 1963 in Graz, aufgewachsen in Vorarlberg und in den 80gern ausgewandert nach Australien, stellt nach zahlreichen Ausstellungen in Australien und international erstmals in der Galerie Lisi Hämmerle in Bregenz aus.

Nahrungsmittel kommen als Materialien in seiner künstlerischen Praxis immer wieder zum Einsatz. In Australien gilt Ehmann als der perfekte Humanist. In seiner künstlerischen Auseinandersetzug bezieht er Krieg, Genozid, Schmerz und Leid mit ein, aber sein Versprechen ist ein anderes. Seine Materialen umfassen Eier, Wachs, Honig und Milch und sind Universalsymbole der Nahrung und des Komforts in einer Welt, welche durch Gewalttätigkeit und Entfremdung zerrissen wird.

„Ich gebe zu, das Englisch nicht meine Sprache ist. Kunst ist nicht meine Sprache. Meine liebste Sprache ist die der Nahrung, des Kochens und des Lebens“ so kommt wieder „YES WE CAN“ in einer Rauminstallation in der Galerie zum Einsatz, auf den Punkt gebracht mit neuen Fotografien und Textmontagen.

YES WE CAN

Life, food, literature, art and humanity are to be enjoyed, not made unbearable. Franz Ehmann cooks for enjoyment and as a performance. For his installations at Casula Powerhouse in Liverpool he served Rösti. Polenta with Porcini Mushrooms and Balsamic vinegar was dished up at Artspace Sydney, in 2007. Fruits and vegetables were dipped into black-pigmented beeswax for a raw nutritional buffet at the Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane where they became American death row prisoners’ meals. As part of the first exhibition at Lisi Hämmerle Gallery, Franz Ehmann will serve future nutriments and present new photo works that contain overworked advertisements and text pieces.

Franz Ehmann was born in Graz 1963, raised and educated in Vorarlberg, Austria. He migrated in 1986 to Australia and having had numerous exhibitions in Australia and Europe will exhibit for the first time at Lisi Hämmerle Gallery in Bregenz, Austria.

Food items appear as materials in his artistic practice constantly. In Australia Ehmann is known as a consummate humanist. In his artistic discussion war, genocide, pain and suffering are referenced, but his promise is something else. His materials include eggs, wax, honey and milk and are universal symbols of sustenance and comfort in a world torn apart by brutality and alienation.

I confess English is not my language. Art is not my language. My dearest language is that of food, cooking and life. The space related installation YES WE CAN is ready for action at the gallery and is punctuated with new photo works and text montages.
